solarium tans. is there a big chance of getting cancer ?

i need a tan becoz my formal is really soon. its in 3 weeks and i need a fake tan. i dont want a sprey tan because they usually turn out orange and i dont really like the idea of standing infront of some one with just underware on. I wanna try the solarium tan this week for a trial but i heard they were bad for you ? does anyone no anything about them? thanks
