How do you clean a volcanic lava-loofah stone exfoliating scrubber thing?

You know, the thing that looks like charcoal that you use to scrub off the excess layers of skin. Well, when you scrub off all that dead skin, it collects in all the nooks, crevices and crannies of the lava stone. How do you get all that dead skin out? I feel like throwing it on the grill with the rest of the charcoal in order to burn all the skin off it.

place it in the top rack of the dishwasher, and it being the only item in the dishwasher. run on a short cycle with NO detergents. that should remove build up and gunk. best wishes.
