Turn Around: Eyelid Surgery Can Make your Eyes Bright

In recently-published research in the Proceedings of the Royal Society B, the Face Research Laboratory at the University of Aberdeen, reported that people judged happy faces more attractive if the face was looking directly at them. However, where it is looking does not affect the attractiveness of a disgusted face. The correlation between gaze direction and attractiveness is stronger for opposite-sex faces than it is for same-sex faces. This is yet another confirmation of the importance your eyes play in making you more attractive to members of the opposite sex, and shows how important it is to be able to direct your gaze freely and strongly at people if you want to make a good impression. However, sometimes our gaze becomes obscured by drooping or puffy eyelids, making it especially difficult to make the kind of furtive but direct eye contact essential to the initial stages of mating. If you are having difficulty connecting with the object of your desire, it might be time to consider eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty). If we want to look young, attractive, and energetic, both to ourselves and to others, the eyes make all the difference.

Introduction to Eyelid surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is a delicate surgery that restores the appearance of skin and muscles around the eyes. It is far less invasive than the more extensive brow lift, but can achieve some of the same effects. It can be performed on the upper eyelids, the lower eyelids, or both, and is generally used to correct:

· Narrowed eyes

· Sagging eyelids

· Drooping eyelids

· Bags under the eyes

· Sight obstruction

· Tired appearance

Because studies like that conducted by the Face Research Laboratory show how important our eyes are in our daily interaction with others, these changes might be more than simply cosmetic. One possible explanation offered by the University of Aberdeen researchers is that a direct gaze signals attachment and interest, so an obscured gaze might be taken for boredom or loss of commitment. In addition, wide-open eyes are taken as a sign of trustworthiness, so brokers and salespeople may find the sagging of their eyelids makes them lose sales. The appearance of your eyes is not merely superficial: it is at the heart of our livelihood and our lives.

One false assumption people make is that eyelid surgery is only for older patients. However, much of our appearance is genetic, and the area around the eyes is one where genetics seems to play a dominant role. After all, there’s no way to exercise away the fat in your puffy lids. In addition, some lifestyle factors such as smoking, overwork, and chronic lack of sleep can have a negative impact on the appearance of your eye area.

The Blepharoplasty Procedure

A skilled plastic surgeon knows how to do many different kinds of eyelid procedures and can determine a precise combination of techniques to address your particular eyelid issues. Some common areas of correction:

· Removing fat from upper and/or lower eyelids

· Removing skin from upper eyelids

· Transplanting fat from the eyelids to hollows under the eyes

· Correcting for weakness of eyelid muscles

· Smoothing skin below the eyes

For the surgery, you may be given a local anesthetic with a mild sedative or a general anesthetic, depending on whether you are having an extensive or limited procedure. Then the surgeon makes cuts to allow the separation of the skin from the underlying fat and muscle of the eyelids. For lower eyelid surgery, the cut is commonly made on the inside of the eyelid, whereas for upper eyelid surgery the cut is concealed in the eyelashes. Excess fat, sagging skin, and even muscle will be removed.

Blepharoplasty is a tightly targeted procedure and can be combined with any number of surgical and non-surgical treatments such as a brow lift, facelift, or the injection of filler materials.

Take Care to Heal Quickly

After your surgery, do exactly as your surgeon requests to minimize your recovery period. These instructions usually include:

· Use cold compresses to help reduce bruising and swelling.

· Keep your head elevated for several days.

· Avoid vigorous activity for about three weeks.

· You might want to avoid bright lights.

· Use only the eyedrops given or proscribed to you by the surgeon, in the event of dryness or itching

· Do not be concerned if your eyes are producing excess tears. This is relatively normal.

· Avoid getting your eyes wet, except with the prescription drops.

· Avoid anything that makes your eyes hurt, like wind or sun.

· Don’t wear contact lenses for at least two weeks.

If you follow your surgeon’s instructions, the procedure should heal in 2-3 weeks, and you’ll find that your face will look much younger in appearance. As you begin to notice the change, you may find yourself hankering to get out and bat those younger-looking lids, but you’ll find it’s well worth the wait to avoid all vigorous activity for the full healing period.

Skin Drama
What type of tanning lotion is the best?

I know that tanning is bad for you…so spare the drama about skin cancer. My question is I have really fair skin, and I go tanning for about two months, just so I don’t burn when it really gets nice out to tan outside. I’ve used the same lotion now for awhile and I wanted to know if anyone had any tanning lotion knowledge. So I’m looking for a tanning lotion that suits fair skin, and somewhat dry as well. Anyone have any suggestions?

You should try Designer Skin, I just love it. I’m a blond girl with blue eyes, and with very fair skin. I had the hardest time getting any color when I tanned. I got a Paradisio free sample pack in the mail and used it right away at my tanning salon and just fell in love with it. I have the best tan of my life :)

If you’re looking to give it a try, I’d recommend seeing if you could get a free sample first. I’m not sure if there are any more available, but I got mine here http://freesampleprincess.com/designer-skin-paradisio-tanning-lotion-free-sample

I hope that helps :)

Deep Tan

How Tanning Bed Bulbs Work

The bulbs that are used in tanning beds are a lot more than just simple fluorescent office ceiling lights. Tanning bed bulbs, also called tanning bed lamps, come in a number of different types, such as bulbs for deep tanning, bulbs for bronzing, bulbs designed specifically for tanning the face and facial area, among others. There are even different varieties of bulbs made for different skin tones.

That way a person with naturally darker skin can get a tan that’s better for their complexion, just as a fair-skinner individual would be able to get a tan that will be safest for their skin as well. The shade of tan you achieve while tanning will depend on the spectrum of light that is emitted by the lamps in the tanning bed. This is how you can custom tailor exactly how deep and dark you want your tan to become.

More than just a light box, sun beds are always on the cutting edge of technology. The tanning industry has kept it their top priority to keep tanning a safe and effective process. Tanning bed bulbs are held to very strict regulations and standards, and these specifications keep the consumer as safe as possible. There are limits that have been placed on sun bed lamps as far as how much UV ray output they are allowed to have.

This is to keep their use as safe as possible. Used correctly, tanning beds can provide you with a beautiful, rich, even tan that is much safer than the tan you’d get from the sun! This is because tanning bed bulbs are made under very strict controls, so you can control exactly how much and what kind of UV rays you’re getting, and for what specific length of time.

Tanning bed bulbs are specifically tailored to use in a tanning bed. You cannot fake a tanning bed by laying underneath some fluorescent bulbs from an office supply store. Sun bed lamps come in two varieties, high pressure bulbs and low pressure bulbs. High pressure sun bed lamps will come in a length that goes from approximately three to five inches and they will range anywhere from 250 to 2,000 watts.

It is the 400 watt bulbs which are the most popular among the high pressure bulbs. High pressure bulbs are the tanning bed bulbs most frequented placed in the area that will tan your face. These bulbs are most frequently constructed of quartz glass and have a special coating, both of which will help to filter the most dangerous of the ultraviolet rays.

Low pressure tanning bed bulbs are more similar to typical fluorescent bulbs, however, they are also constructed with a glass tube which will filter out the dangerous UVC ultraviolet rays.

Zit Zapper and Face-Washing Brush Make the List of 2008 Skin Care Trends

Skin care is an always advancing technology with new products being tested, developed and marketed. Some of these products start as trends only to fade away, while some have staying power and find their ways into beauty routines for years to come. Here’s a list of some of 2008′s skin care trends and products:

An Organic Standard
Now that organic beauty products can receive the USDA seal to indicate its degree of purity, look for a regulatory standard and seal for natural beauty products. Burt’s Bees, which launched the initiative, has indicated that the Natural Standard Seal will require at least 95 percent natural ingredients and pure processing methods to make the mark. “We’re starting at a higher percentage because most consumers believe if a product stays it’s natural, it must be so, but that’s just not been the case,” said Mike Indursky, chief marketing officer for Burt’s Bees.

Zap Blemishes Away
A new slew of at-home beauty appliances are about to join the Zeno zit zapper and the Clarisonic face-washing brush. Watch for products that will offer many of the same mechanics of spa-grade devices, such as the Mini-Marvel, which use LED light to diminish wrinkles, acnes and blotches.

Tress Relief
While known to aide in potential hair growth, scalp massages are becoming full-length spa treatments for relaxation. In Los Angeles, spas such as the Ole Henriksen body treatments may also include hair conditioning. Asks Hendricksen, “Why should spa services stop at the hairline?”

New Targets for Anti-Aging
Anti-aging doesn’t just stop at the face any longer. Spas are turning the focus to the neck, d’collet, bust, and overall body by popular demand. Spa and retail shelves are stocking creams, exfoliators and more. Sylvie Hennessey, creator of Pevonia Botanica, which launched Tropicale anti-aging body treatments recently said, “Clients want their bodies treated for wrinkling and sun damage too.”

Some Familiar Friends
More products touting firming and lifting properties will make their way to the shelves. And in them (look at the label on the back) are the same proven ingredients, such as retinol, vitamin C and peptides people have been using to treat wrinkles and blotches.

Bat the Eyes
More products will bring the focus on thickening and lengthening lashes, despite the FDA’s crackdown on one manufacturer, Jan Marini, for claiming its products could make lashes grow. Products include RevitaLash and Osmotics FNS Nutrilash.

Correct rather than Conceal
The new anthem for makeup is to correct the flaws rather than hide them. Leaders in this market include Elizabeth Arden’s ceramide line. Other products include Kimiko Beauty’s firming eye shadow and Joey NY’s under-eye concealer which includes anti-aging peptides. Mineral essential makeup has been popular for its lack of irritants and UV protection. “This concept goes one step farther,” said Kimiko founder Danielle Vincent, “Your skin is actually better for having used it.”

A-Peeling Treatments
Spas are developing less aggressive forms of chemical peels which are lower in acids and higher in skin soothers such as green tea. This scaling back in potency offers new variations of the at-home peel. “It’s wonderful as long as the percentage of acid is low,” said New York City facial plastic surgeon Yael Halaas, MD. “Too high a concentration or too frequent use can lead to damage.”

Bullion Bling
Spas and their customers are in love with gold as a facial ingredient. At about US$500 for an ounce of serum with gold is more bling than benefits. While down-right decadent, gold is still yet to be proven an effective anti-ager.

Anti-Age the Amazon Way
English rose and French lavender may have a new contender in town. Product lines are turning to the Amazon basin as its new spa-beauty garden. Its indigenous plants, fruits and nuts are high in antioxidants and skin-nourishing oils. For example, Amazon Beauty contains acai, buriti and guarana fruit. Inara Organics is based on the babassu nut. Even mainstream brands like Kiehl’s and Borba are using guanabana and yerba mat because of their purity and efficacy, says Borba founder Scott Vincent Borba.

It’s hard enough to diagnose someone in front of you without doing it third person or trying to go back in history to before the disorder was considered in existence.

Van Gogh had psychotic symptoms but was likely bipolar w/ psychotic features and not schizophrenic, but that is the closest to schizophrenia of the names listed. Buzz Aldrin and Beethoven had Bipolar. Paula Abdul had Bulimia not anorexia. Lincoln had depression.

Pennington has ADHD and Cameron Diaz has OCD.

Feet Corrector
is is OK to use a corrective wrinkle eye cream to PREVENT wrinkles?

im 20 yrs old and my friends are already getting crows feet when they smile, etc.. i dont want that… and a pharmacist recommended this VICHY meokine wrinkle corrector for eye area… should i use it or is it too much?

It is not only O.K., but it is very wise. I haven’t heard of the eye product your pharmacist recommended, but I will tell you I have been in the makeup and skincare industry since 1975, and I swear by an eyecream from a Japanese company called Sheseido. It is sold in the department stores, and it costs $47.50. It is worth it. If you go to Nordstrom’s and you try it, and don’t see results, you can return it for a refund.
The eye area has NO oil glands, as it wouldn’t be prudent because of the proximity of the eye. You need the richest cream that wont move into the eye area, that hydrates the skin without causing puffiness, which is what would happen if you used a face cream in that area. Most premature aging is due to dehydration and sun damage, and the constant facial movements that over time, if not hydrated and protected, becomes deep lines and wrinkles. I guarantee that if you use this product, it will instantly improve the texture, comfort and hydration of your skin! I have been using it since 1986, and I actually am allergic to any other products I have tried, and believe me, in my line of work, I have tried them all! Check it out, and let me know what you think. I dont even work for Sheseido, but I know alot of products, and that one is by far the best. And like others who have answered your question can attest to, drink lots of water, hydrate, take off your makeup every night, sunscreen, and sunglasses! Don’t be afraid to smile, just check it out! I have used eye cream since I was 15, but I am fair skinned and have dryness around the eyes. Many products out there that say anti=wrinkle, firming, lifting, etc. etc. are too active for many skins.
Sheseido Benefiance eyecream is the best secret that needs to get out! (Tell your Mom too!)
